It helps enormously to include your phone model and iOS version, and what the box’s LED was doing at the time.
Common questions
- The app does not find my box.
- The box must be powered on and finished booting — its LED blinks quickly while in pairing mode, and stops once a phone is connected. To enable pairing mode, attach an iPhone or iPad to one of the USB ports and you should see the LED start blinking. Bluetooth must be enabled on the phone, and the app needs Bluetooth permission.
- Can I use the app without the hardware?
- Not for playing records, no — the app is the controller for a Waxcode DVS box and there is nothing for it to control on its own. It does include a full demo mode, so you can explore the interface and see what it does before building anything.
- Which turntables and control vinyl work?
- Any turntable with a normal phono output, at phono or line level. Control vinyl needs to be Serato — each deck has a setting in the app for whether it is playing side A or side B. Other timecode formats are not read.
- Where does my music live?
- On a USB stick plugged into the box. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is synced, and there is no account. The box reads the drive directly and sends the app what it needs to draw.
- Why is my first load of a track slow?
- The box analyses a track the first time it sees it — waveform and beat grid — and caches the result. The second load of the same track is immediate.
