The Waxcode DVS app does not collect, store or transmit any personal information about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising identifiers and no third-party tracking of any kind. The app talks to your own Waxcode DVS box over Bluetooth, and your music never leaves your own hardware.
Who we are
waxcode is a small independent hardware and software project based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR we are the data controller for the limited information described below. You can reach us at info@waxcode.co.
What the app stores on your device
To remember the box you have paired with, the app stores a pairing credential in the iOS Keychain, along with your box’s identifier and a flag recording whether you have completed setup.
This information stays on your device. It is not sent to us, and it is removed when you delete the app.
Your music
Your tracks live on the USB storage connected to your Waxcode DVS box and are read by the box itself. Track titles, artwork, waveforms and analysis are sent from the box to your phone over Bluetooth so the app can display them.
None of it is uploaded to us or to anyone else. We have no access to your library, your playlists or what you play.
Bluetooth and local network
The app asks for Bluetooth permission so it can pair with and control your box. It asks for local network permission so it can find your box on your own network.
Neither is used for location, advertising or analytics. iOS asks for Bluetooth permission in terms that mention location because Bluetooth can in principle be used that way; we do not use it that way, and the app requests no location permission at all.
Software updates
When you check for or install a software update, the app requests the update from our server at waxcode.co. Like any web request, our hosting provider (Vercel) records standard technical information including your IP address and the time of the request, in server logs used for security and diagnostics.
No account, device identifier or information about your box or your music is sent with these requests.
Mailing list
If you choose to enter your email address on this website, we store it solely to send you occasional updates about waxcode. We use EmailOctopus to manage the list and send those emails, which means your address is processed by them on our behalf.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us. We do not sell or share your address with anyone else.
What we do not do
We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services in the app. We do not use advertising identifiers or the App Tracking Transparency framework, because there is nothing to track. We do not build profiles of users, and we do not sell data to anyone.
How long we keep things
Mailing list addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. Server logs are retained for a short period by our hosting provider for security and diagnostic purposes. Everything else stays on your own device and hardware, under your control.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive a copy of it. In practice, for most people the only data we hold is a mailing list address, which we will remove on request.
Email info@waxcode.coand we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Waxcode DVS is a DJ product intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes affecting the app will be noted in the release notes for the version that introduces them.
